oh, joy!

I just found out that my cousin Joy has started knitting!  And that two of my other cousins (who I will be visiting next month) would love to learn.  I'm thinking some care packages are in order!

I finished my first Sockapalooza sock, and am chugging right along on the second one.I'm on my way...
I'm on my way...
In this picture you can see the pretty spiraled rib detail at the cuff of the sock- a really nice touch.  In my previous attempts at the sockapalooza sock, in the spiraling pooly colorway, I even tried at one point to work a spiraled rib that followed the pooling.  That was a lame idea, but the spiraled rib was cool, so it is nice that the Finnish Socks pattern had that detail.  Also, I find that the Dutch Heel on these socks is very cushy (the slipped heel stitch is extended beyond the flap and into the turned heel), snug, and comfortable.

I was lucky enough to get a sock pal with the same foot measurements as myself, so I know the sock will fit her nicely!  I really cannot wait to block them and watch the colorwork area smooth out.  I have been playing around with a new way of working the two colors during the fair-aisle bits, so that the tension doesn't tighten up for those parts only.  On my first try at this sock, I was holding the yarns in my usual way (Continental, with each strand coming off of a different finger in my left hand) which I can work pretty speedily.  But my gauge in that section was 1 stitch an inch tighter than in the solid colored parts!  So I played around with another method and am now able to keep a consistent gauge.   I still feel that these socks are flying by- probably one of the reasons I love socks is that even though the needles are small, even though you can really play with lace, cables, or colorwork in as intricate a manner as you please, they are essentially tiny, quick projects.  With very little finishing.  I really , really hope my pal likes these socks!  I would like them, and I have been to her blog and I do think she would like these colors.

M-H-

Happy Valentine's Day!

Your socks absolutely rock! I am thrilled to see that someone is having a positive yarn experience -- especially after coming home on Saturday night to find that the dog had gotten into my yarn stash and inextricably tangled together two newly wound cakes of Koigu, one cake of Point Five, and my last ball of chocolate brown Blossom. Grrrrr. At least he's got good taste. Kinda like you with your fabulous socks. :)

I love the socks as well. Dan accidentally put 4 balls of wool cotton in navy (one of our Wings possibilities) in with my gargantuan Knit Cafe Purchase in January, so I actually have coordinating Artyarns and Woolcotton... it could happen...

Miss you - I read all the time, it's just hard to comment at work. Hi to Deena, too!

Beautiful sock! Thanks for the info on its construction too. How interesting that the slip-stitch is continued on the heel. Never seen that before. Neato.
