acid flashbacks, being a blogfan, and knitting a baby sundress

OK, here we go- a recap of the past 2 1/2 weeks:  Knit. Work. Eat. Sleep.  Knit. Work. Go to the bookstore with Jacob at midnight, and sweet Jacob buys me Harry Potter!  Eat. Sleep. Knitwork. See "Wicked." at the Pantages with Jacob, Hope, and Jamie.  Knit.  Work.  Eat. Knit.  Work.  Sleep.  See the King Tut exhibit at LACMA with Jacob and millions of other people.  Am amazed that the artifacts are so incredibly beautiful that I don't mind the crowds.  Knit.  Work.  Knitwork.  Eat.  Sleep.  Go out to brunch with the fabulous Mind of Winter- who has, in the heat of summer, moved back to LA (howdy, neighbor!) Work knit... knitknitknitknitknitknitknit.  Finish my design work!  Sleepsleepsleep.  And then...

Guess which fabulous author with SJP hair came to Knit Cafe?

meandyarnharlot!.jpgThat's right, I met my favorite Harlot!  Stephanie came to the Knit Cafe on Monday night for a book signing... she was so funny, my cheeks were hurting partway through her talk from all the laughing and smiling.  Stephanie is one of those people who (despite the nervousness she claims on her blog) is just a really cool person who puts everyone at ease.  She had a chat with every single person who came and had their book signed, which was really great.  We had snacks for after the talk ( and the fabulous Kathy even brought these delicious samosas!)... speaking of the talk, this may well be the only even for a knitting book I ever attend in which the author and audience discuss their "List..."  yep, that would be the List of famous people they would like to sleep with.  Not to mention how little earthquakes make you think you are having an acid flashback.  That Steph is a hoot and a holler!  Seriously, I got to have a nice talk with her after the store closed and I was finishing the cleanup, and she is the bomb.  She left for San Francisco on Tuesday morning, and my old Deadhead roots started popping up... I thought... I could go on tour, and follow the Harlot up the West Coast... yeah, and buy sock yarn AKA Methadone for Knitters all along the way... and knit things for gas money... a girl can dream, right?  Stephanie, thank you so much for coming to the K.C.!  It was such a pleasure to meet you- hopefully our paths will cross again!

So, yesterday, after waking up and realizing that I had no work knitting to do, I... started two new projects.  Um, yeah.  Actually, three, but I'm going to jump ship on one of 'em.  So the two that survived are: an inspired-by-the-hourglass-sweater-in-Last-Minute-Knitted-Gifts sweater for me... inspired by because I am using Jaeger Trinity, which is so different in gauge that I have to make up a new pattern... and I'm going to do a picot hem... and change the decreases on the raglan part to look a little more polished. But I'll give credit where credit is due, and my starting point was the Hourglass sweater.  So many Knit Cafe customers are making that sweater, as well as two of the staff members (Beth and myself).  Can we do a Knit Cafe knitalong?  How would that work?  I'm just throwing that out there.  OK, back on track.   Project number 2- a little sundress for Komari.  I have this stunning light purple Blue Sky Organic cotton in the stash, and it would be so beautiful on her.  So I'm doing a sundress, making it up as I go along.  Progress pics soon!

It was fab wasn't it? I think that night was the most fun you could have in L.A. (My list notwithstanding.)
    Thanks for having me.

LOL - we won't even discuss who got removed from the List, now will we? It was great meeting you! I'll have to come back by the store some time soon.

HAHAHA! MH you crack me up. You are making the hourglass sweater, but you are redoing the pattern for a new gauge, like it's NO BIG DEAL. ;-)
