it's always the first to go...

The blog, that is.  Sorry for my lack of posting this month!  Here is why:

    • all my knitting/crafting has been for work/publication, so I can't show pictures anyway (but yay!)
    • no time for other crafting
    • loads and loads and loads of deadlines (both knitwork and workwork)
    • when I get busy (and sometimes even when I don't), my lifelong companion for better or worse, Anxiety, comes over and settles in for a visit, and I just can't put myself "out there" when I am in the thick of it.
    • no. time. for internet.

But here is the good stuff (very much condensed):

    • I'm nearing the end of these knitwork projects, and I'm pleased and proud.
    • I'm feeling more calm about other things (always hard for me)
    • I had a fabulous Thanksgiving!
    • I'm co-hosting a knitalong for the very first time!  Wheeee! Want details?

Colorwork, colorwork, strandstrandstrand!  I'm so excited about this.  To be honest, I totally invited myself to co-host with MJ and Andrea during a spin-in at Julia's... but I'll pull my own weight*, so I think it's all good.  (*Except with the code... I gotta tell you, those ladies can alter a template like nobody's business!  Watch and Learn, MH.  Watch and Learn.)

Details!  We are officially starting this Friday!  We are such a pressure-free knitalong!  We haven't set an end-date yet... probably because each of the three hostesses has a rather... hopeful?  ambitious?  insane?  list of projects we'd like to make for the knitalong.  The deal is, this is a knitalong open to all types and all levels of stranded colorwork.  Along with progress and project updates, we'll have links to books we love, tutorials and tips, places to shop... all kinds of resources.  (Some are up in the sidebar already... check it out!)  If you want to sign up, just send us an email at strandedcolorwork AT yahoo DOT com.  We'll get your name on the list, get you an invite to the Flickr group, and all that good stuff.  So far we have about 50 participants... join the fun!

Oh!  Also!  We'll periodically be posting questions for knitalongers... MJ got the ball rolling today... here the questions and here are my answers:

What are your projects for this knitalong?

I think I want to start with a patterned-yoke sweater.  I really, really need to knit something for myself so much I can taste it.  And I want one of those sweaters, bad.  Also, I want to make the Mamluke socks from Folk Socks (love them).  Those are the first projects on my list... I know there will be more!

Is this your first colorwork project? If it isn't, what was your first, and has it survived the test of time?

This is not my first colorwork project... the first thing I ever made using any kind of stranding technique was a pair of fingerless gloves out of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, with stripes and hearts wrapping all around them.  I made up the motif on my own.  Hearts = simple.  That was about four years ago, I think.  They have held up beautifully over time, probably in large part because I wear them about once a year.

That's all for now!  So glad to be posting again!  Hope you all are well, friendly blog-readers!

Yay, you're back! I'm so excited about the KAL too--and my list is quite impossibly long.
Glad to hear you're feeling calmer in general--anxiety bites, esp. when it keeps you up at night. Here's to soothing knitting and sleepytime tea!

OK, so I'm still fairly new to knitting and I don't know what "stranded colorwork" actually means. Can you enlighten this poor ignorant knitter?

Oh, you know Mr. Anxiety too? He is in constant residence at my house, but for the most part he stays quietly in his corner where he belongs. I've been conversing with him a bit more than ususal lately because we are trying to buy a new house together. That's been fun!!

I'm excited about the Colorwork Challenge. I have my project all picked out! But I have a small whine. I received the Flickr invite, and accepted, but my name is not on the participant list :-<
